The 80% AR-15 Lower Receiver in raw, unfinished aluminum is the choice for builders who intend to apply their own custom finish to the completed lower — whether that is Type II anodize in a custom color, Cerakote in any of hundreds of available colors and patterns, spray-on finishes, or simply polished bare aluminum for a distinctive look. Starting with a raw receiver preserves all finishing options and allows complete customization of the final appearance.

Like our anodized version, the raw 80% lower begins as a 7075-T6 aluminum billet, CNC-machined to mil-spec external dimensions with all standard AR-15 lower features completed and ready for upper receiver and stock installation. The raw finish reveals the beautiful machine marks and toolpaths of the manufacturing process — many builders choose to leave some features partially visible through their finish as a nod to the home-build heritage of their rifle.

The unfinished areas — fire control pocket and trigger/hammer pin holes — are marked with precision-drilled center points and laser-engraved guidelines that facilitate accurate completion with either a milling machine, quality drill press, or compatible 80% jig. The wall thicknesses around the fire control pocket are machined to mil-spec dimensions, providing the necessary material for clean, accurate final machining without leaving excessive material that requires laborious removal.

Raw aluminum requires more careful handling during completion than anodized receivers since the bare surface is susceptible to corrosion and marks easily. We recommend completing the machining process as quickly as practical and applying a protective finish within 30 days of completion. Pre-cleaning and degreasing the raw aluminum surface before anodizing or Cerakote application will result in the best adhesion and finish quality.

The raw 80% lower ships in a protective polyurethane bag to prevent corrosion and surface scratching during transit. A light coating of anti-corrosion oil is applied to all surfaces before bagging. The package includes a drilling/milling specification sheet with dimensions, a jig compatibility guide, and a basic finishing guide covering the most popular aftermarket finish options.
