The Rare Breed FRT-15 E3 Enhanced Reset Trigger is the third generation of the controversial and legally contested Forced Reset Trigger design that has captivated the AR-15 community since its introduction. The E3 designation marks significant engineering improvements over the original FRT-15, addressing user feedback and incorporating lessons learned from hundreds of thousands of rounds fired through earlier generations. This is Rare Breed Triggers at its most refined.
The Forced Reset Trigger operates on a fundamentally different mechanical principle than standard semi-automatic triggers. In a conventional semi-automatic trigger, the shooter must deliberately release the trigger forward past the reset point before the next shot can be fired. The FRT-15’s mechanism uses the rearward movement of the bolt carrier group during firing to mechanically reset the trigger and disconnect the sear simultaneously, theoretically allowing the trigger to be fired again immediately as the BCG returns to battery — without the shooter releasing the trigger to the reset point.
The E3 version incorporates an improved sear geometry with EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) precision on critical surfaces, resulting in a cleaner break and more consistent reset feel compared to the E1 and E2 versions. The trigger bow itself has been redesigned with a broader, more ergonomic profile and a patented anti-rotation pin design that prevents the trigger from rotating under the forces of rapid fire. The disconnector spring has been upgraded to a more durable stainless steel unit with a longer service life rating.
Drop-in installation is straightforward for anyone with basic AR-15 armorer skills. The FRT-15 E3 ships as a complete fire control group assembly — trigger, hammer, disconnector, and springs — that replaces the entire factory FCG in approximately 15 minutes using only a punch, hammer, and needle-nose pliers. No permanent modification to the lower receiver is required.
Compatibility is confirmed for mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers from all major manufacturers including Aero Precision, BCM, LWRC, Daniel Defense, and dozens more. The FRT-15 E3 requires a mil-spec trigger pin hole spacing and will not function correctly in polymer lowers with enlarged pin holes.
Each FRT-15 E3 is individually serialized and ships in Rare Breed’s signature red foam-lined hard case with a function test card, installation instructions, and a certificate of mechanical inspection. The trigger is warranted against manufacturing defects for one year from date of purchase. Ships within 2 business days.
